CHSPE Prep
Instructor: Patterson, B.
The California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE) prep course is a program that specializes in preparing students to take and pass the CHSPE.  Students enrolled in the CHSPE preparatory course will be enrolled in a period of math and test-taking strategies and a period that consists of essay prep, grammatical lessons, and reading comprehension.  Students will not be earning credits towards graduation as both classes solely focus on testable material.

Currently, each CHSPE test costs $92.00.  The school will pay the exam fees if the student has 5 or fewer absences per quarter.  If the student has more than 5 absences per quarter, they will be responsible for paying for the entire exam and may be dropped from the program.  Failure to pay exam fees will result in immediate removal from the program.

After taking the CHSPE exam, students are required by law to attend school while waiting for their test results (approximately 6 weeks).  Within that time frame, the CHSPE prep course will turn into a work experience independent study.  Students who are employed will be required to work 20 hours a week and report to school every Friday for weekly meetings.  Employment hours will be verified through work site visits.  Students who are not employed will be required to find a job, enroll in ROP, vocational training, or volunteer on campus.
